As many of you all know, Aaron and I have wanted to adopt for a long time. God has made it very clear that now is His perfect time to start the process of adopting our little orphan baby or even possibly babies.
We have recently attended the Adopting For Life Conference at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and it was so incredibly encouraging to hear others who have felt the call to adopt and their hearts for orphans all around the world. It is overwhelming to hear the insanely high numbers of orphans without loving parents to care for and nurture them.
Ethiopia is the country we have decided to adopt from and are very excited as we have begun the process. Our application was just approved about a week ago and we have started the paperwork and an 8 hour long course online. Shortly we will be assigned a social worker and will begin the home study process.
Reading about Ethiopia we have learned that this country alone has an estimated 4.3 million orphans. The children are primarily orphaned due to poverty, and live in both government-run and privately established orphanages. As much as we want to “rescue” these poor babies, we have to seek motivation strictly from the cross and the life of Jesus. If we try to even remotely do this on our own, we will fail miserably without the help of our Lord and Savior.
“We are not the solution to the orphan crisis, the cross is. It is the solution to our crisis.” -Dr. Russell Moore, author of Adopted for Life.
Please be praying with us as we are just beginning in this wonderful journey of adoption.
